MALAYSIA EXPO & HEALTHCARE SEMINAR 2012
YANGON, MYANMAR

 

The Malaysia Healthcare Travel Council (MHTC) under the Ministry of Health Malaysia organised the Malaysia Expo & Healthcare Seminar 2012 on 20-22 September 2012 in Sadona Hotel, Yangon, Myanmar.

This event was officiated by Y.B. Dato’ Sri Liow Tiong Lai, Minister of Health Malaysia accompanied by his wife and graced by the invited guests including Dr Myo Thet, Secretary General of Union of Myanmar Federation of Chambers of Commerce & Industry (UMFCCI), H.E. Dr Ahmad Faisal Muhamad (Ambassador of Malaysia in Yangon), Y.Bhg Dato’ Dr Hassan Abdul Rahman (Director General of Health) and Dr Mary Wong Lai Lin (CEO of MHTC). YB Dato Sri has expressed hope that the delegation led by himself will further cement the goodwill and friendship between Myanmar and Malaysia.

This expo showcased nineteen (19) exhibitors from Malaysia comprising of 11 hospitals, 2 ambulatory care facilities, air ambulance, Tourism Malaysia, Education Malaysia, Malaysia Airline Holiday and Malaysia My Second Home. The expo also featured 16 specialists and consultants from the various hospitals in Malaysia to share with the seminar participants their expertise in their respective disciplines such as cardiology, oncology, orthopaedic, dental, O&G and internal medicine.

YB Minister highlighted that since the formation of MHTC, the council has recorded a big increase in the numbers of medical tourist coming Myanmar into the country where in just two years the number of medical tourist has jump 73% from 336,000 in year 2009 to 583,000 in 2011.  He also stressed that one of the main factors Malaysia is attracting more and more medical tourist is because of its value for money high quality care with competitive pricing.

YB Minister has also announced that Malaysia has set-up the first of its kind call centre to answer all enquiries pertaining to seeking treatment in Malaysia and encouraged all foreign patients including Myanmar to fully utilise this number.
