Introducing Point of Care Testing (POCT) Rapid
Molecular PCR in MOH Facilities- Genexperts

COVID-19 testing

As part of the effort to increase the capacity and expanding the access
to COVID-19 RT-PCR test, 8 units of Genexpert machines were procured
and located to hospitals without the existing modalities especially in Sabah
region. Medical Development Division was also responsible for bringing in
COVID-19 Genexpert kits into the country. It was the fruit of a triumphant
collaboration between MOH and The Global Fund, World Health
Organization with the help of MOH Procurement Division, MOH Financial
Division as well as MOH Policy and International Relation Division.

As a result, a total supply of 19,040 genexpert tests were acquired with a
total cost of RM 1.58m. A laboratory protocol on the rapid molecular PCR
testing has also been published for the use of COVID-19 MOH Hospital
Laboratories.
