After our first contact with the enemy, where it
tested every aspect of our service planning and
delivery, and we toiled through the myriads of
challenges of reorganizing and resetting our
healthcare facilities and service delivery in the
wake of the COVID-19 pandemic, the time to
establish a rigorous practice and culture of after
action reviews (AAR) arrived. The purpose of the
AAR which were held in March and October 2020
was to capture and immediately apply lessons
learned, enabling corrective actions as the battle
rages. Actions and plans were revisited, relooked
and retooled, best practices demonstrated and
challenges encountered during the response to
the pandemic were identified and documented
with the aim to ensure the healthcare facilities
on the front line emerge from the crisis not only
intact, but strengthened with better preparedness
and response capacity for the future.
