COVID-19 Mortality Review

In order to help improve the ongoing management of
COVID-19 cases and patient outcome, thereby reducing
morbidity and mortality amongst COVID-19 patients, a
National Committee of COVID-19 Mortality Review was
established on 23 March 2020 as decided during the
National CPRC meeting chaired by the Director-General
of Health. The committee reviews every aspect of the
management, treatment and care received by the deceased
and makes recommendations based on the reviews to the
respective clinical teams managing COVID-19 cases in the
hospitals. It is led by Datuk Christopher Lee, an esteemed
Infectious Diseases Consultant who was the former
Deputy Director General of Health Malaysia. Its members
consist of clinicians from various clinical fields, which
include Infectious Diseases, Internal Medicine, Cardiology,
Emergency Medicine, Anaesthesiology, Intensive Care,
Forensic Medicine and Public Health. Initial physical
meetings have now been replaced by video conferencing
to comply with the current MCO situation. As of 31 October
2020, the committee has reviewed more than 200 cases.
