Evidence based practices on the use of medical

                equipment and supply during pandemic

The Medical Programme adopted an evidence-based approach in
addressing issues related to the use of innovation and technology
during the pandemic. Safety, effectiveness and efficacy have always
been the concern of practitioners and policy makers when dealing with
new approaches such as split ventilators and artificial intelligence in
interpreting imaging for diagnosis. The Malaysia Health Technology
Assessment Section (MAHTAS) played an important role in providing
insight on these technologies and help the policy makers to make
                informed decisions.

During the early pandemic, worldwide was experiencing shortage of
PPE including in Malaysia. Respirators were among the most needed
equipment. There was shortage of N95 respirators and Malaysia has
received high quality KN95 respirators from China. In addition, the use
of fabric face mask was also popular among the community. MaHTAS
has conducted rapid evidence review to ensure that the use of PPE is Rapid Evidence Review on Effectiveness of fabric mask in community. Available at official MOH
effective and safe for health personnel and the public. The information website for COVID -19
would be used for relevant informed decision making. (http://covid-19.moh.gov.my/kajian-dan-penyelidikan/mahtas-covid-19-rapid-evidence-updates)

The Medical Development Division encourages the use of appropriate Walk-in Screening Booth for COVID-19
PPE in hospitals. MaHTAS collaborated with the Health Care Quality
Section and the Nursing Division conducted a retrospective study. The Intubation Box for COVID-19 Patients
aim was to explore the utilisation pattern of N95 respirators, surgical
face mask and isolation gown usage in eight COVID-19 hospitals during Chest X-Ray With Artificial Intelligence For Diagnosis Of COVID-19
the COVID-19 pandemic. The results of this study help in monitoring Intelligent Temperature Measurement and Sterilization Channel & Smart
the proper use of PPE and avoid wastage. Medical Isolation Ward

Two rapid reviews were conducted on this; Effectiveness of fabric mask Artificial Intelligence CT Scan for COVID-19 Detection and Monitoring
in the community and Gamma irradiation in sterilisation of used PPE.
