Developing Standard Operating Procedures

                                                                                                (SOP)/Guidelines – New Norm


                                                                                                The Ministry of Health (MOH) through the CPRC Hospital Services
                                                                                                swiftly responded by developing Standard Operating Procedures
                                                                                                (SOP) and guidelines to prepare our hospitals. Good SOP/guidelines
                                                                                                in clinical settings must be able to ensure compliance to standards
                                                          3   4   1 - 6.  Developing and

                                                          5   6        guidelines               the provision of care/services as well as to ensure the safety of both
                                                                                                patients and staff. To achieve this desired outcome, the SOP were
                                                                                                carefully designed, systematically disseminated & implemented with
                                                                                                continuous improvement from time to time paying careful attention to
                                                                                                specific context and situation.

                                                                                                These new SOP/guidelines were developed  with the concept of
                                                                                                “begin with the end” in mind. To do this, relevant stakeholders from
                                                                                                various services and agencies were engaged. Here, evaluation on
                                                                                                available and published SOP/guidelines were conducted, where
                                                                                                careful attention is given to its benefits, harms, burdens, patient’s
                                                                                                values and resources requirement.

                                                                                                An enormous organisation with various stakeholders meant extra
                                                                                                challenges. This coupled with service complexity meant that CPRC
                                                                                                Hospital Services had to navigate through difficult work processes.
                                                                                                Nonetheless, holding on to the concept of #strongertogether, team
                                                                                                work, dedication and passion is what drove the team in completing
                                                                                                this arduous task. To ensure all stakeholders are kept in the loop,
                                                                                                these guidelines were disseminated using various communications
                                                                                                strategies that included formal letters, video conferencing and website.
                                                                                                Leveraging on the rapidity of information dissemination, social media
                                                                                                platforms were also used to disseminate the SOP/guidelines.


                                                                                                The newly developed SOP/guidelines were incorporated into hospital
                                                                                                guidelines and policies to assist the healthcare workers to carry out
                                                                                                their daily operations and protect themselves from the virus. At given
                                                                                                interval, feedback, analysis and improvement meant we were able to
                                                                                                ensure relevant and appropriate guidelines are in place.
