Integrating New Norm
into Our Routine
New norms are now part of everyone’s daily routine. As hospitals
continued to provide care for Malaysians during the pandemic,
all MOH hospitals complied with the stipulated guidelines. This
included optimising clinic scheduling by including morning and
afternoon sessions where necessary. This provided more available
slots while limiting the number of people within a space.
Face-to-face clinic continued where needed. To avoid overcrowding
of facility, appointments were given in a staggered manner. This
small volume of patients meant we were able to maintain a safe
physical distance. When deemed clinically safe, follow-up clinic
reviews were offered through an online platform. In addition, to
address high volume of backlog cases with long wait time, after-
hours clinics and surgeries were implemented as a temporary
measure.
The patient to visitor ratio was also limited to 1:1 to ensure safe
physical distancing in wards and when needed a patient is only
allowed one companion. In addition, meetings, trainings and other
formal gatherings, were conducted virtually to comply with new
norms. Such proactive measures are set in place to curb the spread
of infection while ensuring safety of both patients and HCW.
