Infection Prevention and Control Training
for Private Hospitals
Partnering program between Ministry of Health Malaysia,
World Health Organization and Association of Private
Hospitals Malaysia
There was an urgent need to train healthcare workers from private
hospitals on COVID-19 and infection prevention and control to
combat COVID-19 in Malaysia. Two training workshops were
successfully conducted in Penang and Johor Bahru in October
2020. These workshops were convened by Ministry of Health
Malaysia and World Health Organization Country Office for
Malaysia, Brunei Darussalam and Singapore in collaboration with
the Association of Private Hospitals Malaysia.
It involved a total of 128 participants from 28 private hospitals from
various location. The participants were expected to conduct the
echo training at their individual hospitals. The objectives of the
program are as the following:
• to equip the HCWs with knowledge regarding the epidemiology
and transmission modes of COVID-19, various measures of
control which include donning the doffing of personal protective
equipment (PPE), hand hygiene, methods of disinfecting clinical
areas and equipment as well as waste and linen management
• to update HCWs about current WHO-recommended IPC
measures and the appropriate PPE needed when dealing with
suspected or confirmed COVID-19 cases to reduce exposure
and transmission of the virus in healthcare facilities
