2.6 Under-5 mortality rate
Refers to deaths of infants and toddlers aged below 5 years per 1,000 population aged below 5 years

2.7 Maternal mortality ratio
Refers to deaths which are caused by complications of pregnancy, childbirth and the puerperium, within
the period of 42 days after childbirth per 100,000 live births

2.8 Total dependency ratio
Refers to the ratio of the number of persons below the age of 15 years and the number of persons aged
65 years and above to the number of persons aged 15-64 years.

2.9 Sex ratio
Refers to the number of males per 100 females

2.10 Life expectancy at birth
Refers to the expected average number of years a new born baby will live, assuming a fixed schedule of
age specific mortality rates

Refers to National Leprosy Control Centre (1), Institute of Respiratory Medicine (1), Rehabilitation Hospital (1),
Women & Children Hospital (2), National Cancer Institute (1), Psychiatric Institutions (4) and Sarawak Heart
Centre (1).
